I was never really too big when it came to God, but He indeed has had an impact in my life. I started going to church when my grandma first took me to church back when I was only 3 years of age. It was only the children’s program I was in and I don’t really remember much from it apart from a few random events (bumped head with a youth and I had a concussion). The bible that I have today is from the church. That was back when I was still living in Edmonton.
In 2015, when I was 10, we moved here to Vancouver. I don’t know when we started coming to this church in particular, but it was still a good place despite its small chapel size. My grandparents kept taking me to church.
Back then, I was typically a very friendly and helpful person in the online community, that is until I kept getting betrayed by people I thought to be good. But I didn’t go out of my way to seek revenge. I just continued on like normal. May be knowing God does help!
One thing that I was surprised about was in middle school, I met Mr. Dubai, my homeroom teacher. He was a very good teacher, helping me to improve and showing interest in my hobbies. But what surprised me the most was when I graduated from middle school, he personally gave me an honor roll. God had given me a teacher to mentor and encourage me! Thank you, God!
2020 was a rough year for everyone. Covid forced everyone to stay home. My school grades tanked. Even through that, I remember the best teacher I had ever had. Mr. Trovado, my high school music teacher. I began with the trumpet. I had braces, making it much too painful to play. Then I played the flute. My lungs were simply not strong enough to play it. Then he directed me to bass guitar. I had found the instrument I strive towards. I joined the jazz band, got a tutor to help me, played in Powell River, and at the end, Mr. Trovado gave me an award for most improved musician. God had sent me a good teacher who helped me through tough times!
What’s more interesting is how I landed my first job – a friend of grandma just mentioned there’s a job opening. I applied and it so happened that the owner of the company and Mr. Trovado are actually good friends. I got a good reference and got myself hired. God has given me such a great opportunity. I have to believe that His divine hand is indeed on me!
Now when it came to the baptism, God had always been in the back of my mind. But it was never too prominent. I had been struggling with committing. But after many sessions with my grandma, I had finally decided to just go for it. Even if it was just a little over 51%. This is the time now and just trust the Lord to lead my life as He has always been. September 3, 2025
